What to do next
Day one
- Let family at home know you’ve arrived safely.
- Get to your accommodation with transport you arranged before you flew.
- Get a local SIM or eSIM so you have a New Zealand number for banks, employers and your education provider.
- Buy basics for tonight and tomorrow morning.
What to do next
Days two and three
- Check in with your education provider’s international office if you’re a student.
- Start your bank account and IRD number if you haven’t already.
- Learn your local bus or train route and get a transport card.
- Find the nearest supermarket, pharmacy and doctor. Save them in the portal.
What to bring
Keep these within reach
- Passport and printed copies of key documents.
- Your accommodation address and contact, written down.
- An international bank card that works on arrival.
- A warm layer, even in summer, evenings can be cool.
Go easy on yourself
Jet lag and new routines are tiring. Prioritise sleep, water and a few simple wins. Everything else can wait until week one.
